Jambaroo Valley’s ‘Karinya’ sells For Record Price
A local buyer is overjoyed having beat out fierce competition to purchase Karinya, a spectacular lifestyle property in the rolling hills of the Jamberoo Valley.
DiJones Bowral sales agent Michael Cawthorn said the property sold for a record $7.65 million in a four-week campaign that saw 102 enquiries and 18 inspections. “The enquiry level has been wide and vast for what is an unbelievably fabulous property,” Mr Cawthorn said. “Interest came from parties both locally and interstate as well as internationally for the 1000sqm property on sixty acres some120 kms from Sydney and only fifteen minutes to Minnamurra, Gerringong and Kiama beaches and twenty-five minutes from Robertson in the Southern Highlands.”
Mr Cawthorn said the owners purchased the land with a cottage in 1983 and then purpose built a home for their parents and children some 20 years ago. “It was a huge part of their life and finding the right buyer was very important to the vendor. The buyer has 14 grandchildren and intends to keep Karinya as it is. A charming couple from the local area, they are moving from a larger landholding and really fell in love with the property. “The buyers decision to keep the property in its current state swung the vendors to move the closing date of the expressions of interest forward and accept the offer. “The buyers saw value in the home and acted quickly. It would probably cost you $9-$10 million to build today and everything is immaculately presented. “The unique single level property has seven bedrooms and seven granite-topped bathrooms, plus study and powder room as well as six living rooms across three separate wings in a U shape configuration.
“The design allows you to live in the main hub of the home and then have visitors stay in the wings. With a 30 seat home theatre, 12×5 metre saltwater swimming pool, colossal under-building garaging with the potential to cater for 24 cars and helipad Karinya, is one of the most incredible properties I have ever sold in my 36 years in real estate,” Mr Cawthorn said.
The DiJones Bowral office which has seven salespeople has seen huge interest in the last 12 months with 165 sales compared to 101 in the previous corresponding period and combined value almost doubling to $320 million.
“The interest from the Sydney market has been especially strong with young families seeking a tree change and better lifestyle.“The fresh air and value for money in the Southern Highlands and surrounding areas, combined with the ability to work from home due to the strong NBN is attracting people at record numbers,” MrCawthorn said.
